NINETEEN74.COM - GLOBALIZE FASHION
NINETEEN74.com is a professional fashion networking web site that links people in the fashion industry from around the world. Invented, created and set up in 2008 by London-based fashion consultant Raoul Keil, it is the first ever online fashion network that allows people to meet online, form partnerships, start projects, and advertise job vacancies for free.
The site’s primary audience is people working in the fashion industry, particularly fashion students and upcoming talent in design, production and marketing – but with an overridingly all-inclusive policy. It encourages collaboration within the fashion industry whatever the individual’s occupation or location. The site is equipped with specific functionality to facilitate social and professional networking and idea transfer.
On the site, individuals and companies can create their own individual profiles, including an image and personal details, and catergorised by industry or occupation (e.g. model, photographer, make-up artist, manufacturer).
The site is restricted for those not registered, but once logged in, users can browse the profiles of everyone else on the site, or browse by specific occupations and locations. This is to enable quick and easy networking, especially when looking for suitable collaborators for projects.
Users can also create new fashion projects and events, and upload images and videos, as well as writing a blog. When logged in, you can see recent news stories, browse other people’s blogs – or of course post your own. The site encourages people to contribute as well as search, in an interactive and simple way.
Users can contact each other privately with a messenger function, and can edit their own profiles at any time. When a desirable contact has been identified, users can request others to become contacts: once approved, these contacts will appear in the users personal profile area.
In the events section, members can post their own dates with information about their events, like sales, fashion shows and photo shootings, which can then be easily browsed. Likewise with projects, those looking to involve and working with others can post a description with image of the project and other users browse this section to see if anything takes their interest.
The groups section operates in a similar way to groups on Facebook, in that users can create bespoke, named networks and invite other members of NINETEEN74.com. While in the jobs section, users or companies can post job opportunities which can be browsed or searched.
Everything is absolutely free.
The web site was designed by Elle Moss from Drew Creative Branding in London, and developed by UK-based web agency Webstars.
