Photography by Omay Goksu
From a young age, I have always taken a real interest in photography. In my youth, I would spend my time walking about my local area, photographing my surroundings. At that time (and perhaps still today!), I was a somewhat shy and reclusive photographer - hidden away, experimenting with light, textures and spaces, aspects which may not usually have been noticed or seen to have any value other than in a perfunctory sense.
Keeping photography close to me, and given this early interest, I perhaps took an unusual route through education: I decided to study as a designer, with a focus upon marketing and design. Nonetheless, during my time in education, I continued to produce photography projects that were almost an intellectual collaboration between my area of study and my own personal photography work. This practice allowed me to develop my sensitivity towards materials and design processes, helping me to understand my clients’ needs: from brand agencies and advertising companies to individuals and small business.
